The National / NATO Stock Number is a 13-digit number that has a 2-digit National Codification Bureau (NCB) number between the 4-digit
FSC and the 7-digit item number. The U.S. Department of Defense switched from the Federal Stock Number (
FSN) system to NSN in September 1974.
