News Release: FedEx sponsors the traveling Wall
12 October 2006
FedEx Corporation, headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., has continued its support of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund with a $25,000 contribution to The Wall That Heals, making it a national sponsor of the traveling Wall, reported Jan C. Scruggs, Memorial Fund founder and president.
The Wall That Heals is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. This traveling exhibit enables many thousands of Americans to have the educational, emotional and healing experience of The Wall in their own communities. As a national sponsor, FedEx’s donation is used to defray all of the costs associated with keeping the traveling replica and its exhibits on the road.
"FedEx has long been a friend to the Memorial Fund," said Scruggs. “The company’s continued support of our organization has made
The Wall That Heals and many other programs possible.”
In fact, FedEx has supported the Memorial Fund since 1998, giving contributions to support
The Wall That Heals and the Teach Vietnam Teachers Network, a group of educators who, with help from the Memorial Fund, provide resources and support for teachers across the country bringing lessons on the Vietnam War into their classrooms. Also, FedEx Chairman, President and CEO Fred Smith is a member of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s Corporate Council.
The Wall That Heals also features a Traveling Museum and Information Center. The Museum chronicles the Vietnam War era and the unique healing power of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, while the Information Center serves as a venue for people to learn about friends and loved ones lost in the war.
In addition to FedEx, other national sponsors of
The Wall That Heals include the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Trust, Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc., Harley-Davidson Foundation and Target Corporation.
