News Release: Traveling Wall embarks on 2007 tour
01 March 2007
The Wall That Heals, the half-scale traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, begins its 2007 travel schedule today, said Memorial Fund Founder and President Jan C. Scruggs. 2007 marks the 25th anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The Wall That Heals will travel throughout the United States between March and December, visiting areas as diverse as California, Minnesota, Illinois, New York and Georgia. Its first stop of the year will be in Port St. Joe, Fla., from March 1-4. In all, 23 sites are scheduled on the 2007 tour, but new locations are continually added throughout the year. In addition to the half-scale replica of The Wall, The Wall That Heals traveling exhibit features a museum and information center. The museum chronicles the Vietnam War era and explores the unique healing power of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The information center helps visitors learn more about friends and loved ones lost in the war, and volunteers assist them in finding names on The Wall.
Since its dedication in 1996, The Wall That Heals has visited approximately 250 locations throughout the United States, spreading the Memorial's healing legacy to millions. It made its first-ever international journey in 1999 when it went to Ireland to honor the Irish-born casualties of the Vietnam War. It has also traveled to Canada.
Sponsors of The Wall That Heals include Disabled American Veterans Charitable Trust, FedEx Corporation, Fujitsu Transaction Solutions, Harley-Davidson Foundation and Target Corp.
