News Release: Stone To Make Film About My Lai

Oliver Stone, the director of Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July and Heaven & Earth, is to produce another movie about the Vietnam War.

Titled Pinkville, it focuses on the investigation into the infamous massacre at My Lai, where in March 1968 members of Charlie Company of the Americal Division’s 11th Infantry killed hundreds of villagers after failing to find any Viet Cong.

The $40 million film will star Bruce Willis as General William R. Peers, who chaired the commission that investigated the massacre’s cover-up. Channing Tatum has also been lined up to play helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson, who curtailed the killing by placing his craft between the surviving villagers and the gunmen.

Production of the movie is set to begin early next year.
