Life Preserver - Work Type
Specification
MIL-L-17653
The Navy’s Work Type Life Preserver was designed to be lightweight and comparatively thin so that it did not interfere with boat duties. Its three cotton covered buoyant pads were made from unicellular plastic and provided a total of 17.5 pounds of buoyancy. Though it was a U.S. Navy item, the Work Type vest was worn by some Army riverine patrols in Vietnam.
