COSVN
Central Office for South Vietnam
The
Lao Dong Central Executive Committee originally established COSVN in 1951 to command the insurgency in southern Vietnam during the first Indochina War. It was dissolved after the 1954 Geneva cease-fire agreement, but was reactivated in 1961 to direct all Communist military and political activities in southern South Vietnam. As such COSVN controlled the
People’s Revolutionary Party, the
National Liberation Front and the
Viet Cong.
