Tiger Stripe Boonie
It is widely believed that the Counterinsurgency Support Office (
CISO
) on Okinawa provided jungle hats of this particular design to
Special Forces
in Vietnam. Richard Johnson, author of Tiger Patterns, named this tiger stripe the John Wayne Dense (JWD) pattern due to its widespread use in the movie "The Green Berets". The hat pictured was brought home from Vietnam by a Special Forces Sergeant and features a wide brim, a headband for inserting natural camouflage and has two small ventilation eyelets on each side.
