The quilted M1949 Mountain Sleeping Bag was filled with a mixture of feathers and down and was designed to be used in temperatures of 14 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. It had a zipper fastener and was produced in regular and large sizes. Tie tapes attached to the foot of the mummy shaped bag were used to secure the bag when rolled up, or were inserted through openings in the water repellent

. The sleeping bag was also issued with the
waterproof clothing bag
, which protected it when being stored or transported. Both the
M1956
and
M1967
load carrying systems had specially designed sleeping bag carriers.
