The 2nd pattern cover for the plastic film bladder was considerably different from the original. It had slide keepers on the back rather than a belt loop, featured a pocket for water purification tablets but did not have a shoulder strap. Unlike its predecessor the canteen could be opened without having to unfasten the cover.
