The 3rd pattern M1943 shovel cover was very similar to its predecessor, but the flap was secured by a brass snap fastener rather than a lift-the-dot fastener. The cover's double-hook was typically used to attach it to the Marine Corps' M1941 haversack or more rarely to the M1936 belt.
