EX 54-11 Canteen Cover
Tested by the Quartermaster Research and Development Center as a replacement for the
M1945 load carrying system
, the prototype EX-54 webbing evolved into the standard
M1956
field gear that was used throughout the Vietnam War. The EX 54-11 Canteen Cover was designed to accommodate the aluminum
M1910 canteen
and cup. It was made from olive drab (OD7) cotton duck and was lined with a grey wool felt. The lining provided padding and when wet helped to keep the canteen cool. In common with the rest of the EX-54 field gear, the canteen cover attached to the pistol belt via a pair of chunky slide keepers.
