This classic tiger stripe camouflage was named the John Wayne Dense (JWD) pattern by Richard Johnson, author of Tiger Patterns, because of its use in the movie "The Green Berets".1 It consisted of four colors (black, dark green and brown, all with a tan outline), which were silk-screened on to the fabric. In addition to uniforms, the JWD tiger stripe was used as the camouflage for the boonie hat procured by CISO for Special Forces in Vietnam.
