The USMC M1967 M14 ammunition pocket was developed following testing of the experimental XM1964 nylon M-14V pouch in 1966. Classified for limited production procurement (LP/P DES 21-67) in 1967, it was made from nylon, featured a plastic spring catch fastener and attached the pistol belt via two slide keepers. Though the USMC M1967 gear was approved for use in South East Asia, Marine Corps elements had begun to withdraw from Vietnam before the complete system could be issued.
