The cotton M2 bandoleer had six pockets that were each designed to contain a cardboard sleeve that held two 5-round clips of 7.62mm ammunition for the M14 rifle. In Vietnam soldiers would often carry a 20-round M14 magazine in each of the bandoleer's six pockets, enabling them to carry far more ammo than the issued magazine pouches would allow. Soldiers would often wear two, and sometimes even three bandoleers.
