M16 Ammunition Pocket
FSN
8465-890-2014
The
M16
ammunition pouch was made from rubberized cotton duck. It consisted of two separate pockets, each of which could accommodate a single
20-round magazine
, and was closed with a lift-the-dot fastener. Three M16 ammunition pockets were issued to each member of the 1041st Security Police Squadron, which deployed to Vietnam's Phu Cat Air Base for six-months in January 1967 as part of Operation Safe Side. Safe Side was a one year test program (Sep 1966 - August 1967) conducted to determine the organization, equipment and training of Air Force Combat Security Squadrons operating in insurgent environments.
