The United States Army, Vietnam (USARV) was created on 20th July 1965. The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 10th February 19661 and featured three vertical stripes with an upward pointing sword in the middle. The blue center represented the United States whilst the red and yellow were taken from the South Vietnamese flag.
